Hope Closet, and Where to Donate a Dress Today

Let’s take a quick trip back. For a while we worked with a local nonprofit called Hope Closet, and it was such a good thing to be part of. Closets all over Metro Detroit got cleaned out, and those bridesmaid dresses ended up at proms on girls who otherwise would have stayed home. The video on this page is from those days. That program has since ended, and honestly, we miss it.

Good news though. Other people picked up the torch. The Prom Promise is a Detroit nonprofit doing this same work today, setting students up with a full prom night at no cost, from the gown to hair and makeup. So if you’ve got a bridesmaid dress, a prom gown, or a homecoming dress hanging in the back of a closet, they’re the ones to talk to.

A few things worth knowing:

• Dress drives usually run late winter into early spring, ahead of prom season
• Drop-off spots change from year to year, so check theprompromise.com for what’s open right now
• Mike Staff Productions is not a drop-off spot. Our Troy office has nowhere to store dresses, so please don’t bring them to us

That’s the whole story. Go dig through the closet. Somebody’s big night might be hanging in there.
