Get to know Michelle 1 on 1:
What makes working in the wedding industry so fulfilling?
Michelle: I truly feel blessed to be part of someone’s wedding. On one day, in one moment, two individuals become a family. That is never lost on me. At Mike Staff Productions, we are lucky enough to witness that moment, and we are able to help the couple celebrate it, and then relive it in photos and video.
If you could tell a bride and groom one thing before they get married what would it be?
Michelle: Always ask questions! It could be as simple as ‘what was the best part of your day’ or a clarifier to avoid a fight, like ‘what did you mean by that?” Questions show you are interested in your spouse’s thoughts and clear up misunderstandings in a way that statements can’t.
What are some of your favorite things to do, outside of your awesome job?
Michelle: I’m married to the Director of Video Operations and we have two older kids. We love watching movies, taking silly selfies and walking trails. If lost, look for me at Starbucks or Target.
There are so many beautiful places to say ‘I do’ in Michigan – what are some of your favorite landmarks or venues?
Michelle: I love the wide open spaces and small town feel. We recently moved to Rochester and it’s quickly become my favorite spot. There are so many great photo locations.
When the videos and pictures start rolling into post production — what are some of your favorite wedding moments that are captured – Walk down the aisle? First dance? Bouquet toss?
Michelle: I love details! Couples spend so much time putting their personal stamp on the little details throughout the day. I love seeing who they are in those images. Check out our Wedding Details Bride Board! And you might catch me getting choked up during the daddy-daughter and mother-son dances. I absolutely love the bride’s first look with her dad.
What’s the cool new trend you’re seeing at weddings?
Michelle: My favorite trend is couples that write their own vows. They can be sweet messages or funny moments. Using their own words to make their declaration of love is beautiful and perfectly them.
Most unique wedding you’ve attended?
Michelle: They are all unique. I’ve never been to the same wedding twice! Sure, they share some common things, but every couple is special.
What’s your approach toward serving people?
Michelle: I remember being a bride myself – the joy, nervousness and wanting to have the best day ever. I get to help couples have that. I look for ways to make their experience easier and more enjoyable. I have both a business and creative background so I’m fortunate enough to have worked in every division directly This allows me to understand all of our services and help the client.
Our company started with a few DJs in a basement, meeting over pizza & beer. That grew into a few more DJs, throw in some creative photographers, add a couple passionate videographers — and Mike Staff Productions — an award winning wedding company — was born.
