2018 Wedding Trends You Need To Know

2018 Wedding Trends You Need To Know

It’s a new year, which means there are new wedding trends to share, discuss and breakdown for 2018! Whether it’s hottest new first dance tracks (Spotify playlist below), latest in decor style, even bridal makeup and hair tips, Mike Staff Productions has you covered! We’ve got to keep up with this stuff, right?

Is 2018 / 2019 is your wedding year? Here are the trends to watch for from straight from the wedding pros and other engaged couples like yourself! Also, make sure you read until the end to learn about some very traditional wedding trends you might be surprised are on their way OUT! Happy planning!

 Color, Color, Color!

The days of weddings being draped in all things light pink, blush, cream and white are over! We most definitely saw that trend dominate in 2017 but the muted colors are on their way out. This year and likely in 2019, we’ll see a lot of color. We’re talking saturated, jewel tone color. The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year is Ultra Violet and while it may take a few months for that to catch on, this is where wedding trends are leaning. Look for…

  • Burgundy + Plum
  • Ultra Violet
  • Apricot + Butter Yellow

  Natural Makeup and Hair

Don’t worry about going extra glam on your wedding day, ladies. These days, less is more. Put away the mustang red lipstick and let your hair down, literally — 2018 is all about the natural bride. Rather than transforming into a glam-bot, the wedding beauty trend is to simply accentuate your natural features.

The wedding experts are seeing a lot loose, beach-y waves, big curls and half up styles! But keep in mind, the up-do will always be on trend! As far as makeup, it’s simple, neutral tones. Why look like someone you’re not? Experts are seeing a lot of brides stray away from the dramatic makeup look. Low maintenance, less to touch up and still looks stunning in wedding photography!

Greenery filled, Cascading Bouquets are VERY in

Bottom line greenery is REALLY, REALLY hot in all types of wedding decor but we’re seeing it a lot in bridal bouquets. Couples are loving how easy (and cost effective) it is to incorporate greenery into their wedding, it just adds some whimsy to any decor elements. Wedding decor exports do not see this trend going anywhere anytime soon and when combined with the color trend above — WOW!

Also, forget tightly packed wedding bouquets that leave flowers breathless. The greenery element really plays well into the cascading bouquet trends. Loose, whimsical flowers that drape down in front of your gown is all the rage. It’s a natural, bohemian look that you can expect to see a lot in 2018.

 Hanging Flowers

This trend is at it’s peak, especially for Spring 2018! Wedding planning pros are seeing a lot of couples stray from the traditional crystal chandeliers take center stage at their reception and rather, bringing in natural, hanging floral elements to create a romantic feel.

 First Dance Songs

At Mike Staff Productions, our professional wedding DJs are always up to date on the hottest new music couples are looking for or into. That doesn’t always mean popular songs you and I hear on the radio constantly. But those unique, underground songs that are definitely in the spotlight when it comes to what couples are looking for, for First Dance options. What’s trending this wedding season, tracks not everyone may know, something that tells their story, almost personalized.

Check out our Spotify playlist. It features the hottest first dance songs you’ll hear at weddings in 2018. Some songs you’ll know, others you won’t but it may just be the perfect fit!

 Low Centerpieces

Comfortable, conversational wedding receptions = the vibe for 2018! That means it’s time to say goodbye to skyscraper centerpieces your guests have to peak their heads around to talk to one another. The trend, this year, is all about low, dainty centerpieces. The elevated centerpiece does, of course, create a dramatic, elegant look but the experts say couples are loving getting creative by making a statement with smaller, lower centerpieces that allow guests to talk one another easily. Plus, can you say, helpful to the pocket book?

 Themed Food Displays

  • Bourbon + Bacon
  • Cookies + Milk
  • Mimosa’s + Macaroons
  • Float Bar

If there is one thing millennials are loving these days it’s a good food theme! Look for fun food combinations during cocktail hour, late night snacks and desert! (Yum!)

 Casual Groom

Vests, sneakers, suits! The 3 piece suit = the new tuxedo. This is a trend that some has more mixed opinions, but while the trend for grooms and groomsmen is more causal, it’s still a buttoned up, polished look. The formal tuxedo look will never go out of style but being able to incorporate suit options gives the groom more looks to choose from to fit his individual personality/ Have fun with suspenders, eccentric socks, just keep it classy

 Geodes, Crystals, Marble accents

It’s all about bringing ‘good vibes’ to your wedding day, right? What better way to do that then with crystals and gems to represent good luck and bring a bohemian, spiritual trend into the overall wedding look. It appears to be popping up in wedding decor, from cakes to table settings!
