The cities revival may have changed the look but the feel you get when you walk around the city is still as authentic as ever. The sights, the sounds and the history of Detroit has always been such a draw when it comes to wedding photography – why not tie the knot downtown, too?!
Mike Staff Productions has incredible relationship with the team that runs Colony Club and The Gem Theatre. Yep, two venues, one company but not the same building! Sometimes there is confusion about that – so here’s the breakdown right from the beginning…
The Gem Theatre: 333 Madison Avenue next to the Detroit Athletic Club and 36th District Court
Colony Club: 2310 Park Avenue one block west of the Fox Theatre across the street from Town Pump and Centaur.
Ok, back to the good stuff…
Lets start with the historic Gem Theatre. This venue offers both large and small spaces for ceremonies and receptions and can accommodate 80 guests up to 275. I mean you can have your ceremony on a theatre stage, how COOL is that? One of the big draws are the all-inclusive wedding packages. Similar to how Mike Staff Productions is a one stop shop for DJ, Photography & Videography – some of the Gem’s packages include plated entrée service, premium bar, a beautiful garden patio and convenient parking surrounded by amazing 1920’s arts and crafts architecture in the heart of Detroit. But that’s not all, throw in mahogany Chivari Chairs & floor length black or white linens and you are SET!
Another member of the Colony Club and Gem Theatre team is Event Manager, Bertha Crane. She’s been a part of the sales & event team for over a decade and loves every minute of it.
Q: What do you love about working at the Colony Club & Gem Theatre?
A: The one thing that I love about working for the Gem Theatre & The Colony Club is that we are all one big team that supports each other and we all work together in making sure the clients are happy. I love making that one special day that you dreamed of come to life and be actually what you vision. It’s not about the money for me, it’s about the smile and the client happiness, and them leaving with their perfect day
Q: Why do you think these venues stand out amongst rest?
These venues stand out among the rest, because when clients comes to us they are greeted with kindness and reassurance that they are making the right choice to allow us to handle there event. They are also shown two beautiful venues that you don’t have to add much to bring out the beauty, because they are both beautiful venues just the way they are.
Next up is the Colony Club centrally located on Park Avenue. It truly is one of the most beautiful and popular event spaces in the city when it comes to weddings, showers, you name it! Deck out with gold leaf ceilings, impressive crystal chandeliers, close convenient parking — you’ll feel like royalty when you walk in.
The venue offers both the 3rd Floor Grand Ballroom which can accommodate up to 400 guests and the 4th Floor Petite Ballroom which accommodates up 150 for both Wedding ceremonies and receptions. You also have access to all-inclusive wedding packages that include plated entrée service, premium bar, and convenient parking surrounded by fully renovated Louis XVI architectural splendor. BONUS: Gold Chivari Chairs and floor length linens can also be added to your package!
