Our Love Story
Kolbi and I met doing our prerequisite courses at Washtenaw Community College prior to attending nursing school. After a semester of group projects, on the last day of class, he finally asked me out on a date.
Kolbi proposed on our 5 year dating anniversary in June 2020. We went out to dinner in downtown Detroit and after dinner he suggested we take a walk along the Riverfront. We reached the end of the walk at sunset and he proposed, just the two of us, overlooking the water.
Our Wedding Vision
We very much wanted to blend our different cultures so from the beginning we knew we would have both an Indian and American wedding ceremony. From there, we really stuck with our favorites. We found ways to incorporate our favorite colors, flowers, foods, drinks, songs, and hobbies. We fell in love with Cherry Creek Golf Club & Banquet Center in Shelby Township, MI and new it was the perfect venue to have our reception.
Our Wedding DJ
DJ Mike put on a great party and took the time prior to our big day to listen to our vision of having an Indian and American fusion wedding. And then on the day of our wedding DJ really followed through by incorporating our requests, but also put his own talented spin on things.
I love country music so I was pretty set on having a country song be our first dance song. However, Kolbi was the one who chose “Yours” by Russell Dickerson. It really just spoke to us as a couple and in a way told a little bit of our story.
Our Wedding Photography
Amy and Dominic, our professional wedding photographers, were absolutely amazing to work with, and worked so well together. We had a very busy, fast-paced day with a tight timeline and they made it work seamlessly. Getting beautiful wedding pictures was important to me and Amy and Dominic were equal parts organized and fun, which made the day perfect!
Our Wedding Video
We knew we wanted to get a wedding video because we knew years down the road we would love not only to see our precious wedding moments with movement but also with audio. I wanted to remember the words spoken and the emotion behind the voices.
Our Favorite Wedding Memories
Favorite moment#1: Our first look prior to our Indian ceremony. Just seeing each other all dressed up and having a moment alone prior to a whirlwind of a day was magical. It was just a feeling of “wow I can’t believe we are finally here. I can’t believe this is our wedding day.”
Favorite moment #2: Our wedding reception. After getting married (twice!) this was our time to really let loose and enjoy the people who had come from so far away to spend the day with us. I don’t think there will ever be another moment in our life where we get to have all of our favorite people in a room together.
Our Wedding Planning Advice
During the wedding planning process, many people will offer you their advice and opinions. Make sure you are creating the wedding of YOUR dreams and not the dreams of others. As long as it makes you and your partner happy the rest doesn’t matter too much 🙂
