Our Proposal Story
James and I weren’t love at first sight. When we met 22 years ago, he said I was, “pretty annoying” and ALL I heard was he thought I was “pretty!” We remained friends and even visited each other in college and always found ways to keep in touch.
In 2013 we lost touch and went into what we call “the lost years”. Thankfully with the help of the internet and my sister Kelly, James and I reconnected! In 2018 we started dating and 20 years after that first met James proposed to me in our kitchen! It was perfect and us!
Our Wedding Vision
We wanted something that felt like us! We wanted a small wedding with the people that mean the most to us there. We wanted to keep everything super personal to us and knew we wanted to get married in the fall. We had a friend of ours marry us and even wrote our own vows! It was a perfect day that still doesn’t feel real!
Wedding DJ Experience
James, our wedding DJ, made our wedding into movie magic! He found every single unique version and song requested we had AND we had A LOT!
Everything from the core memory song from “Inside Out” to start our ceremony, to a cover version of “When You Say Nothing at All” for me to walk out to James, to our recessional song, “Stargazing” that describes James and I to a T! Then hit nailed it with our entrance songs and announcing our sisters! Followed by the perfect audio for their toasts and the best dinner music!
Our first dances all were perfect, and the dance floor never stopped! We can’t thank James enough for a killer party!
We danced our first dance to Tina Turner’s “Simply the Best” but it was a cover version by Noah Reid.
Some of the lyrics in this song are so beautiful that when it’s done acoustically you get to hear words like, “you give me a lifetime of promises and a world of dreams” and “In your heart I see the start of every night and every day!” It was so perfectly us!
Wedding Photography Experience
Our wedding photographer, Bethany, was a gem! She made James and I so comfortable that we forgot she was there! We have only seen a small sample of photos so far. When I say they are breathtaking I mean BREATHTAKING! I couldn’t even pick a favorite; the love and moments she captured I can’t even begin to thank her for!
She was so professional, organized, and helpful. We aren’t used to being on that side of a lens and she made it an experience we will never forget and for all the right reasons! The photographs we are going to get we will cherish for years to come, and we are so glad we hired Mike Staff Productions to document the day.
Wedding Videography Experience
The fact that we will be able to “hear” our vows again is something so special and I can’t even explain what it means to us. I also will be able to have a video of my 91-year-old Grandma forever now! It’s a visual time capsule of a day we don’t ever want to forget!
Daniel, our wedding videographer, was incredible, he worked so hard and paid attention to details I don’t even think the guests noticed! I can’t thank him enough for his care and attention to that detail, it meant the world to us!
Our Favorite Wedding Moments
We loved getting to exchange our vows and tell each other how we really feel! James isn’t a man of many words usually but, the ones he said were amazing! We also really loved dancing and celebrating with our families and friends all night!
Then the sunset that got painted in the sky just for us, was breathtaking! The fact that we got photographs with it, was icing on a very tasty cake!
Our Wedding Planning Advice
I would never claim to be a wedding planning “pro” because I had so much help from Olivia our wedding planner, with Sweet Rustic Charm and our team with Mike Staff Productions, that I didn’t have to think of much myself!
So, my advice would be to trust the pros and then trust the vision that you and your fiancé have in mind. You WILL get outside influence but if you stick to your vision and let the pros help you, it can be done!
