Lauren & Dustin’s Wedding at Proctor Barn

Our Real Detroit Wedding: October 21, 2017

One of the things the Mike Staff Productions team loved most about Lauren and Dustin’s Wedding was how it was such a perfect representation of who they are. I mean, they held their reception in their own barn on their own property in Fenton (how cool is that?!?)

They are fun, light hearted, kind people and we were honored to be a part of their day. But we found out just how kind Lauren was when she took the time to write her Mike Staff Productions wedding DJ, Phil, the most incredible email (you better believe it’s in this blog), thanking him for his professionalism at their reception and expressing the positive impact he left on their entire wedding day.

As you’re about to learn, music (and having the right music) was a really important aspect during their planning process. Her note had all of us smiling from ear to ear. It was a reminder of why we do what we do. We knew we wanted Lauren to talk about her October wedding in her own words as our guest blogger and those words still have us smiling.

Our Love Story

“Our love story started when we met through a friend awhile back and next June 4th will be 4 years together! I felt a connection to him right away! Dustin proposed on our 10 acre home on October 30th, 2016. It was a beautiful fall day and we went for a long walk around our property and as soon as we were done with our walk we headed back inside to the house and the minute I opened the door to walk inside he pulled me towards him and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.”

Our Barn Wedding

“The vision I had for our wedding was a beautiful day, where everything was perfect! We had our reception at our 100 year old barn, on our property. While it had a rustic feel, it was elegant, too!  The barn was filled with hay and straw from several years ago and when we bought our house, we thought to ourselves what the heck are we going to do with a barn! Then after the proposal, we thought where could we have our reception and that’s when we came up with the idea of our barn.  When we started cleaning it out and once we got all hay and straw out the floor was all old barn doors! Which was so unique and special. We put a lot of work into making this the wedding of our dreams and now that it is all fixed up its a beautiful barn now!”

Our Wedding Video

“It was important to me to have a wedding video so we could capture the wonderful moments throughout the day especially our vows, unity candle lighting and all the most important details throughout the day! The video is something we will have for a lifetime and will be able to watch and show our kids! We will be able to recap our beautiful day that is full of love!”

Our Wedding DJ

“I think the reception was the best part as we danced with family and friends celebrating us! Our first dance as husband and wife was to “Forever and Ever Amen” by Randy Travis. The song is about simply loving each other forever and ever no matter what. I will always remember that moment because during our first dance we were looking at each other, singing the words to each other and I could see a lot people singing to the song and clapping their hands together while we danced! It was the most beautiful day & night of our life.

Our Mike Staff Productions DJ rocked the dance floor. I was out on the dance floor for just about every song that night and yes, I was one tired bride at the end of the night – but it was worth it!

DJ Phil also threw in a polka song which was requested by one guest and that was a great add in the music playlist as I am from a polish background and my grandparents always listen to polka music so I really enjoyed hearing it!

The close out song for the night was “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. I can’t think of a better song to end the night and DJ Phil had so many people out on the dance floor!”

Our Thank You to Mike Staff Productions

“I am just writing to you because we can’t thank you enough for being an awesome wedding DJ this weekend at our Barn wedding in Fenton!  Dustin and I were so pleased and extremely happy with all the music choices and how smoothly the evening ran. You were awesome! You were always coming to us and letting us know what was happening next. During cocktail hour, thank you for playing soft music and making appropriate announcements. You were very flexible when there were little details that changed throughout the night.

We received so many compliments on the music selection. There wasn’t one bad thing said about the song choice or music being to loud. You really got the crowd out on the dance floor. I even was asked but one of our guests where we found our wedding DJ! She told me she never saw a wedding DJ as good as you!

We had a blast at our wedding. Thank you again for playing all the songs Dustin & I requested. In our eyes, the DJ is the most important part of a reception due to the fact the guests look for direction from you. I have seen some bad DJs at weddings I have been to. None of them were as wonderful, patient and awesome as you.

You were very friendly as I know some people even came up and were talking to you for some time. They even mentioned they enjoyed talking to you. If there is some way I can review you other places please let me know because I highly recommend you to anyone that asks!

You Rock! Keep up the awesome job! I am so happy we decided on going with Mike Staff Productions for our wedding DJ and wedding Videography! Thank you for being a part of our wedding day and making it special!”
