The Saint John’s Resort Wedding of Marissa & Michael: February 28, 2025
“I would 100% recommend Mike Staff Productions! The whole team worked well together and it was so easy to make one phone call and have three major decisions on vendors taken care of! Communication was effortless and all the extra resources really help you prepare for your special day.” – Happy bride, Marissa
Our Love Story
Mike and I, both MSU alumni, started dating in 2013 after meeting at a tailgate. We did the long distance relationship for a few years and then he bought a house in Royal Oak, so I moved to the East side. Mike proposed during a beautiful sunset on the beach in Petoskey Michigan in 2019. We started planning our wedding but then the pandemic hit in 2020 as well as a pancreatic cancer diagnosis for his mom. It took a few years, but once his mom was cancer free and everything settled down, we went full steam ahead with the wedding planning again.
Our Wedding Vision
I’ve always thought a
winter wedding would be beautiful. An elegant and classy wedding with warm colors and textures would be a nice contrast to fresh, clean snow outside. Although we didn’t have snow in February, (who would have guessed?) The beautiful Saint John’s Resort allowed us to have the wedding vision we always imagined. It was important that our wedding was an evening where all our family and friends would enjoy themselves all night long and I hope we delivered that for them.
Wedding DJ Experience
Our
professional wedding DJ, Kevin, did a wonderful job announcing all the events during the reception and keeping the timeline for the night. It was our hope our guests would be on the dance floor all night long, and DJ Kevin knew exactly what to play and made it happen. Our
first dance was a cover of Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather by Celine Wanyi. The lyrics resonated with us and our personal journey as a couple. During our first dance, it felt like everyone else faded as we sang the words to each other.
Wedding Photography Experience
I could not have asked for better
wedding photographers for our wedding. The photos are gorgeous and really capture the joy and excitement we had for that day. Our photography team was so relaxed and made everyone comfortable. They did a fantastic job of directing people and getting everyone to smile, even those who normally don’t like getting their pictures taken. I was amazed at how fast we got back all our pictures, as well!
Wedding Videography Experience
The
wedding video was something I heard several people tell me was worth having for your wedding and I’m so glad we did. It was stunning and I still cry watching it. It really makes you feel like you’re reliving the day, and we plan on rewatching it on our anniversaries. Daniel was so pleasant, and it never felt awkward or obtrusive to have the camera on you. I also love that we can see parts of the day or reactions of people we didn’t get to experience firsthand.
Our Favorite Wedding Day Memories
I would not change a single thing about our wedding day. Everything was perfect and went how I always imagined it would. Getting ready in the morning with our moms, my sisters, and little niece was such a nice start to the morning. Mike and I wrote letters to each other and reading his heartfelt words meant so much to me. I’ll never forget that. The Mass was also beautiful. Our Faith is very important to us and has gotten us through some hard times. Being able to perform the Sacrament of Marriage surrounded by our family and friends in such a gorgeous place meant the world to us.
Our Wedding Planning Advice
It’s really easy to get caught up in all the “extras” that come with weddings so make a list of the main things that are truly important to you. Once those are covered, have fun and be flexible with the rest. No one is going to notice if “the little details” are wrong except for you so don’t stress so you can actually enjoy one of the best days of your lives!
