Best Photo Locations at Saint John’s Resort
Saint John’s Resort offers more photo opportunities than almost any venue in metro Detroit. Here are the spots our wedding photographers return to again and again.
The Waterfall Garden
Tucked behind the main building, this cascading waterfall with natural stone creates romantic backdrops year-round. Stepping stones let couples stand right at the water’s edge. In fall, the surrounding trees burst with color.
The Fountain Courtyard
The circular fountain near the Monarch Ballroom is perfect for symmetrical portraits. At night, the fountain glows and the ballroom doors open wide, framing the party inside
Indoor Brick Corridor
Arched windows, herringbone brick floors, and beautiful natural light. This is your rainy day hero spot. Photos here look intentional, not like a backup plan
Garden Pathways
Winding brick paths through mature trees and landscaped gardens. Fall weddings benefit from century-old trees creating incredible foliage against the red brick buildings.
The Atrium Staircase
The wrought-iron grand staircase is made for dramatic entrances. Parisian lamp posts and the glass ceiling add old-world charm to every shot
Gazebo Garden
Beautiful ironwork details surrounded by manicured landscapes. The historic brick architecture creates a charming backdrop for portraits or intimate ceremonies.
Golden Hour at Saint John’s Resort

| Fall | 5:30 – 7:00 PM | Garden pathways, courtyard |
| Winter | 4:00 – 5:30 PM | Indoor corridor, interior spaces |
| Spring | 6:30 – 7:30 PM | Flowering trees, waterfall garden |

Wedding DJ and Reception Tips
Mike Staff Productions’ wedding DJs have worked Saint John’s Resort for 30 years, making us intimately familiar with each ballroom’s acoustics, layout, and what keeps guests dancing all night. Here’s what we’ve learned:
The Monarch Ballroom
Coffered ceiling panels act as built-in light boxes for uplighting. Larger guest counts may need additional speakers.
The Atrium
Parisian lamp posts create built-in ambiance. Cocktail areas may need additional music coverage.
Ceremony to Reception
Everything happens in the same general area. No shuttling guests between buildings.
Sound Considerations
Ballroom acoustics work well for ceremony music, speeches, and reception dancing.
Ceremony Options at Saint John’s Resort
Saint John’s offers ceremony spaces for every couple, regardless of faith.
Saints Mary & Jospeh Chapel
There’s no chapel like this in Michigan. Rooted in the European Umbrian tradition, it features soaring wooden beams, hand-carved stone details, Botticini marble statues, and a hand-painted mosaic that took years to complete. The marble floors stretch the length of the aisle in rich brown, gold, and cream.
The chapel is operated by the Archdiocese of Detroit and is available exclusively for Catholic ceremonies. Family portraits in the chapel are available only to couples married there.
Garden Pavilion
A 5,200-square-foot space with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open to a patio garden overlooking the golf course. Accommodates up to 400 guests for ceremonies or 150 for receptions with a dance floor. Perfect for couples of any faith.
Gazebo Garden
Exchange vows under beautiful ironwork details surrounded by manicured landscapes and historic brick architecture. Accommodates up to 134 guests. Can also be used for cocktail hour.
Provincial & Mosaic Ballrooms
Both spaces can be configured for indoor ceremonies of up to 150 guests, then transitioned into your reception space.
Wedding Videography at Saint John’s Resort
Saint John’s Resort is a videographer’s dream. The variety of spaces creates natural visual chapters throughout your wedding film, from intimate getting-ready moments in the hotel suites to grand ceremony shots in the chapel to energetic reception footage in the ballrooms.
The waterfall garden adds something special to video that photos can’t capture: audio texture. The sound of cascading water creates a romantic backdrop for your vows or first look footage. The chapel’s acoustics make every word of your ceremony ring with clarity and emotion.
That indoor-outdoor flow between the Monarch Ballroom and fountain courtyard creates cinematic transition opportunities. And the historic architecture throughout the property provides rich textures and details that make every frame feel like a film set.
Our wedding videographers know exactly where to position themselves to capture multiple angles without getting in the way of your photographer or your guests’ view.
