6 Things to Do After You Get Engaged

These are the 6 things you need to do immediately after you get engaged!

The Checklist Before The Wedding Checklist Now That You’re Engaged

You’re engaged! (Congratulations!)

Now what?! (We’ve got you covered!)

Once the initial shock of the proposal wears off, you will need to start making a few decisions early on but they may be not the ones you’d think.

Don’t worry! With a little help from WeddingWire, Mike Staff Productions has brought you the ‘The Checklist Before The Wedding Checklist’. These are the 6 things you need to do immediately after you get engaged!

1. Focus on the Ring

Get it sized

In case your fiance took a wild guess at your ring size — that’s cool — just take your new sparkler to the jeweler where it was purchased or a trusted one to make sure it’s the perfect fit. It will be hard to part with but sizing should only take a few hours to a day.

Get it insured

Talk to an insurance agent about coverage in case your ring or its stones ever need to be repaired or replaced. Get an appraisal by a jeweler. See if you can add your ring to your existing homeowner’s or renter’s policy; if not, set up a separate policy. Find out whether you are covered if the ring is lost, stolen, or damaged, what stipulations there are if any, and how long the claims process takes.

Take a selfie with it, Duh!

And post on social media for all to swoon!

2. Celebrate Your Engagement

It’s so important to take time to celebrate this milestone and soak in every moment. Here are a few fun ways:

  • Call everyone!
  • Why not test the waters for free wine or champagne because you ‘just got engaged’. Go to restaurants, hotels and show off that sparkler!
  • Get with friends & family to talk about having an official Engagement Party!
  • Book an Engagement Photo Session

3. Start Daydreaming

Can you see ‘the dress’ in your mind? Time to break out the blogs, bridal magazines and of course — PINTERESTGet your best girls together and find out what you like and what you don’t like.

4. Start Talking: When, Where, Who

Time of Year

Have a loose idea of when you want to get married.  Once the word is out, expect lots of questions, including “When are you getting married?” so, have an idea in mind, at least a time of year. “Fall of next year” or “Spring of 2020”, “We want a NYE wedding” — it’ll help give you and your fiancé with a direction and buy you time before you set an official date.

Wedding Style

You might have different ideas on the size, location, style of wedding. Talk about what the most important aspects of the wedding day to you both – perhaps it’s food, headcount, location or music. This will really help you figure out how to put together your budget later down the line if you know where your priorities are. Discuss the idea of having a theme:  Casual?  Formal?  Intimate?  Rustic?  Golf course?  Convention Hall / Venue?  Barn?  Private residence?  Unique location, such as a museum or zoo?

Wedding Party

Bridal Party: write down some names of your closest friends and family, get an IDEA OF who you want by your side.

5. Stash Cash!

Never too soon to start thinking about a budget and it’s never too soon to start saving. Think about starting a Wedding Savings Account or taking out a credit card just for wedding expenses. Have an open discussion with parents or family members about their possible financial contributions.

6. Draft a Guest List (yes, already!)

Just start writing down the names of the people you KNOW you want at your wedding!. Don’t think about money or venue capacity right now, just do it for the process. You can label your must-haves as your A-list, your would-like-to-haves as your B-list, and your ‘meh, not the end of the world if they weren’t there’ as your C-list.

That way, you know you have a little flexibility when it comes to venue hunting for capacity and budget for food and drink.

Marianna & Nick Cunningham - Meadow Brook Hall

"They all went 100% above our expectations."

We booked DJ, photography, and videography and all went 100% above our expectations. Our families and friends were so impressed with the music, that there was always a large group on the dance floor. We felt so comfortable and relaxed during our photos because our photographers made us feel that way. This was important to us. Overall, we are so happy we selected Mike Staff Productions to cover those wedding needs.

Lisa & James Love - The Metropolitan

"We could not see ourselves trusting any other team to run and capture such an important day."

It was great having all the various production teams coordinated out of one place. That alone gave us peace of mind when planning everything. Both photographers, both videographers and our DJ had all worked at some point together in the past, they worked great together and all knew exactly how to keep things on schedule and running smoothly. Having now gone through the day, we could not see ourselves trusting any other team to run and capture such an important day. We absolutely recommend Mike Staff!

Samantha & Zachary VanOverbeke - Freedom Hill

"We loved that it was a one-stop-shop so we didn't have to look around."

My husband and I cannot say enough great things about Mike Staff Productions! We used them for photography, videography, and DJ. We loved that it was a one-stop-shop so we didn't have to look around. Patrick was our videographer and he was such a nice guy! I was worried about videography because I am so uncomfortable on camera, but he made me feel completely at ease and captured the day beautifully! Love Mike Staff Productions, I have been recommending them to everyone.

Lauren & Brandon Kanowski - St. Mary’s Cultural Center

"Our minds were put to ease very quickly!"

Our experience was top notch from start to finish. We were so nervous going into finding the right company, but our minds were put to ease very quickly! Everyone was so friendly, eager to help and made sure all of our questions were answered. We could not be more happy with our DJ, photographer, and videographer! We would highly recommend Mike Staff Productions!

Alex & Tristan Musser - Crystal Gardens of Southgate

"Mike Staff made the planning super streamlined and easy."

Overall, we can’t say enough positive things about our experience. We had all our photos and video in a few weeks, the DJ kept the party going, and Mike Staff made the planning super streamlined and easy. It was so nice to not shop around or coordinate three separate vendors for photo, video, and DJ because they all worked together without us having to do any extra work or communicating. Everyone the day of and prior from the office was professional, answered my last minute emails at all hours and very promptly, and answered any off the cuff questions we had over the phone with ease. We would 100% recommend to any bride and groom who are looking for professionals that take all the coordinating and stress away.

Summer & Jay Morente - Colony Club

"It makes such a difference when you know you are working with a reputable company."

We planned the wedding of our dreams in three months while we were living 10,000 miles apart and not even living in the state in which we were getting married in! The only way we were able to make it happen was choosing to use Mike Staff for our pictures, video and DJ. They took care of everything and helped me plan my Michigan wedding from Florida. It makes such a difference when you know you are working with a reputable company, so you aren’t worried about anyone being late or unprofessional. We knew what we were getting with Mike Staff and being able to depend on them took so much stress out of the planning process.
