Kathryn and Steven’s Wedding at The Masonic Temple

Our Real Detroit Wedding: December 8, 2018

The Mike Staff Productions experience was flawless and I cannot recommend them enough. When people ask me what things went wrong on the day of our wedding, every single time I say “honestly…nothing…” and I know that has a lot to do with Mike Staff Productions, and I will forever be grateful.

Our Love Story

Steve and I met at a local bar in December of 2013. After learning that we lived less than a block apart, we were inseparable from that winter day; friends first, then we started dating, and then we moved in together. In August of 2017, we went on our yearly trip with my family to a lake house in Northern Michigan. While looking out at Torch Lake on Wednesday afternoon, Steve asked me to be his wife. It was so special that it was between the two of us, but then we could go downstairs and share the news with my entire family – what a way to start the celebration! It continued on for an entire week as we got to share the news with Steve’s family when we returned home. Since we met in the winter, we decided that winter was the perfect time to start our forever

Our Wedding Video

After speaking to a few people, their biggest regret from their wedding was not getting professional wedding videography. I didn’t want to look back on our wedding and ever say “I wish I would have done that,” and because of that we decided early on to have every part of the day captured. Being able to look back on the day and hear the emotion in our voices and re-live our vows is something that I’ll always be grateful for. I can’t thank our videographer, Daniel enough for such an amazing job.

Our Wedding Photography

There are not enough words in the world to express how wonderful Chris and Shannon were and how lucky we felt to have them be part of our day. When I look back on our wedding day, I feel like something would have been missing without them. Every single photo they took is breathtaking and will forever be treasured by our entire family. We don’t have enough walls in our home for all the photos we want to hang up and show off! Our dream was to have rustic and vintage Detroit wedding photography, and we got everything we asked for and more.

Our Wedding DJ

Our wedding DJ, Kevin, was AMAZING! He really listened to all our preferences and kept the night flowing smoothly. We started our night off with Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” and Kevin just kept the great music rolling in. I have to say that he ended the evening with Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and what an absolutely epic choice. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Our first song was “Higher Love” by Steve Winwood. It’s a funny story how it ended up being “our song.” On one of our first vacations together in Las Vegas, we heard a song walking in front of the Bellagio Fountains. The song ended up being “The Finer Things” by Steve Winwood. Apparently at home we had a hard time remembering and thought it was “Higher Love”. From that point on, it was both our song and a cute joke between the two of us. I do think the song fits us, as its meaning is that life isn’t always perfect but perfect love will get you through anything.

Our Wedding Vision

From the very beginning, Steve and I decided that we just wanted our wedding to be a good time, celebrating with all the people we love – and it was exactly that. We decided early on that we weren’t going to do things just because that’s what you are “supposed” to do at a wedding. Steve and I don’t like cake, but we LOVE s’mores, so we decided to have a s’mores bar as part of our featured dessert. I also think fresh flowers can be a waste, so I worked with a small company that creates beautiful flowers out of recycled materials. Ultimately, we just went with what we wanted, and didn’t let any of the conventional pressures get to us. I truly believe that’s why our day went off without a hitch, because we worked so hard for 16 months, and had everything planned so far in advance, that it was smooth sailing for the last month. It’s much easier to enjoy your day when you can relax as it’s approaching.
