Mother Nature Can Sometimes be an Unwelcome Guest but We’re Ready for Her!
Ah, the joys of warm weather outdoor weddings in metro Detroit! It’s that time of year, and there’s nothing quite like the festive mood that comes with triple-digit temperatures, sweat trickling down your legs, and an outdoor ceremony that makes you appreciate the genius who invented air conditioning. We totally understand because our wedding professionals feel the heat just as much as you and your guests do.
Planning a wedding during the peak season of summer can be a bit nerve-wracking, considering the elements like humidity, storms, and mosquitos, to name a few. So, what do you do when you have a wedding scheduled for July or August? The key is to plan ahead.
- Ladies, opt for a light and airy dress
- Stay hydrated throughout the day
- Keep essentials handy in your purse or pockets, so you don’t end up looking like a melted ice cream sundae.
The same goes for our team at Mike Staff Productions. We always plan ahead, ensuring that we’re prepared for whatever surprises Mother Nature throws our way, whether we see them coming or not.
Experienced Wedding Professionals Make a Difference
Recently, some of our wedding photographers, videographers and DJs were in the thick of Mother Natures summer wrath. They knew 90 degree weather was on the menu for their Saturday event, with triple digit ‘real feel’ temps to back it up. What did they do? Started preparing days in advance.
See, after two decades of experience in the wedding industry our contractors know better than to take chances on your wedding. Hot weather can take a toll on equipment and the body quickly. Photographer Amy made sure she started hydrating on Thursday. Lots and lots of water.
“I drank water, gatorade, water, gatorade all day. Probably 4 of each throughout the day.. maybe more. I ALWAYS had something to drink with me and the cooler I brought was never far away from me.”

Also in Amy’s cooler, a handful frozen washcloths. Not only did she use them to keep cool while taking photos but she shared them with the bride and groom who were looking for quick relief.
“At one point, when power was flickering due to the storms, the groom was practically red, damp and just miserable. He was incredibly grateful for the cool.”

Our Wedding Pro’s Back-up… Everything (Even Venue)
While our team felt they had a good handle on the heat, it was the last minute severe storms that blew through at their outdoor ceremony that (literally) sent guests scrambling. But not our team.
When equipment got wet, they dried it off and grabbed their back up cameras, lights and sound boards. When their back equipment got wet, they grabbed the back up to the back up. Our team lost several major pieces of equipment at this particular wedding but because they had three or four back up cameras on hand, a single shot wasn’t missed.
You Need a Backup for Your Outdoor Ceremony
Coordinating a plan B ceremony location with your wedding venue is crucial in case of bad weather. But what do you do when the doppler is clear until there’s a popup storm as you walk down the aisle?
This scary situation recently happened at several events. That’s when couples turned to our experienced team for assistance. Our photographers deftly surveyed the sky, consulted with the couple and made a split second decision to talk to coordinators and rush the events to more controlled environments.
A few minutes of setting up ceremonies at covered locations, drying couple’s wet clothes (and a few tears), and grabbing up back up equipment was necessary, but in the end, our couple’s got amazing photos and videos – and a story to tell!
At Mike Staff Productions, we’ve built our whole business around reclaiming the fun in your wedding planning. Ready to start?
